Quick Preview

showcase ammo type

> Zero Contact is an armor-focused combat expansion for TaCZ. > It adds tactical equipment, ammunition variants, and a redesigned ballistic system in which armor rating, penetration, impact conditions, and ammunition choice all affect the outcome of a firefight.

Instead of treating every cartridge of the same caliber identically, Zero Contact gives ammunition distinct tactical roles. Armor is no longer just a flat damage modifier either: plates can absorb damage, lose durability, allow blunt trauma, be penetrated, or cause a ricochet under suitable impact conditions.

Core Features

Tactical Equipment

Build a complete combat loadout with:

  • Body armor and plate carriers
  • Front and rear ballistic plates
  • Helmets and masks
  • Chest rigs
  • Backpacks
  • Combat uniforms
  • Armbands and other accessories
  • Armor repair kits

Equipment uses dedicated Curios slots, allowing tactical gear to function as a complete loadout without replacing Minecraft's normal inventory system.

Some equipment also provides additional functionality:

  • Chest rigs act as ammunition sources for compatible TaCZ weapons.
  • Backpacks provide portable storage.
  • Other players can interact with an equipped backpack by crouching and right-clicking from behind.

Ballistic and Armor Simulation

Zero Contact replaces the usual projectile-versus-armor interaction with a dedicated ballistic calculation system.

The result of a hit may depend on:

  • Ammunition penetration
  • Flesh damage
  • Armor damage
  • Armor protection level
  • Penetrating and blunt-damage modifiers
  • Plate durability
  • Impact conditions and ricochet behavior

A stopped projectile may still cause blunt damage, while successful penetration produces a different damage result. Armor and plates also lose durability according to the hit they receive instead of using only a simple fixed durability cost.

Ammunition Variants

Weapons can use different cartridge variants within supported calibers. Each variant may have its own:

  • Penetration
  • Flesh damage
  • Armor damage
  • Recoil modifier
  • Accuracy modifier
  • Knockback
  • Ballistic behavior
  • Custom hit effects

Built-in ammunition covers multiple handgun, rifle, shotgun, sniper, and launcher calibers.

Special ammunition includes examples such as:

  • Armor-piercing and high-damage cartridges
  • Tracer and API-T ammunition
  • 12-gauge flechette and Dragon's Breath shells
  • 40 mm incendiary and smoke rounds

Use the ammunition selector to switch between available cartridge types and inspect their statistics through the HUD and item tooltips.

Survival Equipment Access

The ThoughBook 67 workbench provides a survival-oriented interface for obtaining equipment, plates, ammunition, loadouts, and accessories.

Its available recipes can be replaced or extended through datapacks, allowing modpack creators to integrate Zero Contact into their own progression systems.

Data-Driven Content

Most of Zero Contact's built-in armor and ammunition content is stored in its default datapack and can be inspected or replaced.

Datapacks can define or configure:

  • GeckoLib-based armor
  • Helmets and masks
  • Ballistic plates
  • Plate carriers
  • Uniforms and armbands
  • Chest rigs and backpacks
  • Protection values and damage modifiers
  • Ammunition variants
  • Ballistic statistics
  • Workbench recipes

Custom ammunition can also use declarative effect hooks and Lua scripts to create more advanced behavior.

This allows modpack and datapack authors to build their own equipment ecosystem without directly modifying Zero Contact's source code.

Requirements

Zero Contact is currently designed for:

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Forge 47.3.10 or newer
  • TaCZ 1.1.8 or newer
  • Architectury API
  • Curios API
  • GeckoLib

Check the dependency list for the exact versions required by the release you are downloading.

Compability:

Compatibility follows the latest supported versions of:

  • First Aid
  • First Aid Compat

Provides more precise body-part and hitbox interaction.

  • TaCZ: Magazines 0.2.0-beta

Adds support for the magazine overhaul and Zero Contact ammunition variants.

Known Compatibility Limitations

Zero Contact modifies several parts of TaCZ's projectile, ammunition, damage, and loading behavior. Mods that heavily rewrite the same systems may be incompatible.

If you encounter an issue, test with the required dependencies and Zero Contact first before adding other TaCZ overhaul mods.

For Players

Choose the right ammunition. Build the right armor setup. Prepare for the target you expect to face.

For Creators

Use datapacks, configurable recipes, ammunition definitions, Lua hooks, and NBT-controlled raiders to build your own tactical combat experience.
