Animalica Core

CBy Craditz

Shared traits, diets, sizing, actions, and first-person support for Animalica player models.

Animalica Core

Description

Animalica Core

The shared foundation for Animalica. It handles animal size, diets, species traits, and the parts of playing an animal that a new model alone does not cover.

Core does not add selectable animals by itself. Install whichever Animalica model packs you want alongside it.

What it changes

  • Animal-sized bodies, with adjustable size limits and a default size for supported models.
  • Species traits and diets. Balanced, Distinct, and Wild settings let you choose how strongly those differences affect play.
  • Special food access for suitable animals, including raw meat, bones, grass, reeds, roots, and mash. Food traits determine which of these foods an Animalica model can eat.
  • A choice between animal eye height and Seraph eye height. Being short does not have to mean inspecting grass all day.
  • Shared clothing, attachment, and first-person support for Animalica packs.

Animal food in 1.2.12

Animalica Core now uses Trait Restrictions for its special food traits. Models with overlapping food access show a named combined trait, such as Flesh & Bone Eater, in character selection. A recognized special food cannot be eaten by an Animalica model without a matching food trait. Core still handles the dry pressed mash condition, feeding and storage interactions, and the server setting for turning off Animalica's special food system. Cooked and unrelated foods keep their normal game rules.

Sitting, lying down, and voices

On supported first-party animals, the sit control cycles through sitting, lying down, and standing. Moving gets you up. Bears, foxes, wolves, hyenas, hares, and raccoons use their awake lying pose where available. If an awake pose is unavailable, the existing lay animation is used, then sleep.

Press V to vocalize. Shift + V cycles temporary voice choices without replacing your saved voice selection. These Core actions do not take over compatibility-pack models.

Settings

Main config: ModConfig/AnimalicaCore.json. Defaults are shown below.

  • animalBalanceMode = Balanced: choose Balanced, Distinct, or Wild for increasingly strong species differences.
  • enableRaceTraits = true: applies species traits and their stat changes.
  • enableSizeOverrides = true: applies Core’s model-size limits.
  • sizeMinimum = 0.5, sizeMaximum = 3.0, defaultSize = 1.0: allowed size range and starting size.
  • enableAnimalFoodNutrition = true: enables Animalica’s special animal-food system. When false, Animalica models cannot eat recognized special animal foods; ordinary foods keep their normal rules.
  • keepSeraphEyeHeight = false: turn on to use Seraph eye height without changing body size. This is a client setting.
  • useDefaultSwimmingDepth = false: turn on to use the vanilla two-block swimming threshold, keeping held torches lit in one-block water.
  • animalClassPowerMode = Balanced: choose Balanced or Heroic for Body Tools classes.
  • oldSit = true disables Core’s sit/lay handling; muzzleMode = true disables Core vocalizations. Both default to false.
  • The optional first-person body proxy is disabled by default. Enable it in AnimalicaFirstPerson.json; F9 opens its offset controls.

Core’s gameplay switches are server-controlled unless marked as client settings above. Incompatible recognized special foods are inedible for Animalica models. Feeding and storage interactions remain available.

Requirements and compatibility

Requires PlayerModelLib and Trait Restrictions 1.0.0. Add at least one Animalica model pack to get animal choices.

Optional: Body Tools & Classes adds animal tools and classes; Abilities adds senses and active abilities. Feral Kinship and Feral Kinship: Companions handle taming and companions separately.

Eligible models support ShearLib and Wool & More. Milking support for goat and sheep players is supplied by the Hooved Animals pack with Milkable Players.

  • Footprints: maps supported animal player models to matching animal footprints.
  • Food Shelves: preserves meat-freezer placement support for items on its allowed list.
  • Dead: handles textures and death poses for copied Animalica player corpses.
