Muck.

What is muck?

Muck is a new, special pile block that is dropped when you break stone or ores. Muck blocks, unlike vanilla piles, can contain a multitude of entries (up to 8 layers) of material within them. Specifically ores or rock types.

Why is muck?

The new gameplay loop is all centered around muck. Process it through water seperation, smelt it, roast it, crush it, seperate it! Muck starts out poor and if you were to process it without all of that? Absolutely go for it. You'll lose out on metal though.

How is muck?

Good, tired but good.

Muck can be created through 2 major ways, breaking rocks with a pickaxe, and breaking blocks with Drilling and Blasting.

I am muck?

No.

What different processing methods are there?

For IME there are currently 7 main processing methods

Sluicing: Water Separation and sluicing are possible through an emergent property of Muck. When in flowing water, muck will move slowly downstream self seperating heavier material that will remain behind. You can also use Sluice Baffles under the water to capture the ores without letting it flow down stream.

Smelting: Smelting muck into pig ingots, there are various fluxes that can increase your yield as well.

Roasting: Roasting muck increases how much output you get on it, although volumes are more limited.

Sieving: How to turn muck into raw stones, sand, or gravel, and as well as extracting materials from ores, poorer output for metallic ores.

Screening: Seperate muck into coarse muck and fine muck. Fine muck processes naturally better than Raw or Coarse and has more availability.

Crushing: Takes coarse muck and crushes it to mostly fine muck.

Bloomery: Iron ores take special apparatus to refine. Thus, we also added multiblock bloomeries that broadly can process significantly more material at once.

Interesting Mining & Extraction Design Philosophy

IME is built around the want for players to build up infrastructure for their mines, and further for processing and refining the ores. Of course we also want the ability for players to totally ignore most of the mechanics within IME. If you're one of these players you can simply feed muck into the sieve and it will output a small amount of ore nuggets, although very inefficiently.

Main Changes to Vanilla:

The main philosophy of this addition to the Interesting Series is to not only introduce large scale ore mining, with the use of explosives, making it a more thought out, faster and immersive process while still adding possible hazards to look out for, but also introduce the logistics of transporting, having a choice between when to transport muck and process it on a designated area, or on-site processing, based off real life processes.

From Muck to Metal

From Stone to Muck

Ok, Muck has been added, but how? muck is essentially the aftermath of mining, brute, and low yield of ores, either by hand, with a pickaxe, or by a more advanced method of mining: Explosives. This mod adds custom drills and simulates a gamified version of real life mining previous to the 1900s, simulating and allowing blast mining in 13 degrees of vertical freedom and basing it's horizontal direction off of your facing direction.

Processing that Muck or not.

Now that you have the muck, you will notice the ore and stone is mixed, and to get a reasonable yield you will want to separate it, preferably close to the place it was mined, as its a lot of work to move muck, and the raw ore is not that concentrated. First step would be to separate Ore and Stone, which can be done by simply putting it in running water, which will separate the heavier and lighter elements in the muck(you can additionally add a sluice underneath to capture most of the ore and not let it get washed away as you inevitably forget about it),now with the muck separated, you can either screen it, crush it, or roast it, depending on your current technology, those processes transforms the ore into more available forms, this processed muck, although not having more ore, is much easier to process, and therefore renders more of the ore available, and is more efficient. You can alternatively sieve muck for drops such as stones, gravel, sand and rarely ore if ore containing muck is present(at a lower rate than processed muck).
