Panda Hearths
A modular oven and stovetop. One fire powers baking sheets, racks, and pot cooking across blocks.

Description

Panda Hearth

A modular hearth system. One fire, many cooking surfaces.

What Is It?

Stop scattering firepits all over your base. Light one Fuel Chamber, chain Heat Distributors out from it, and drop cooking surfaces on top wherever you want them. Bake bread on one end of the counter and simmer stew on the other off the same fire.

Five blocks:

Fuel Chamber - the fire

Heat Distributor - carries heat outward

Baking Sheet - bread, pies, pastries

Baking Sheet Rack - three sheets stacked in one block, 12 slots total

Stovetop - a grate for pot cooking

Setting It Up

Step 1: Place the Fuel Chamber.

Works like a firepit. Crouch and right-click with a torch to light it. Takes any fuel: grass, sticks, planks, firewood, charcoal, fat. Burns one piece at a time. Hover to see what's burning and how long it has left.

Step 2: Run Heat Distributors out from the chamber.

They pass heat in every direction except down. Chain them sideways to stretch a counter, or stack them upward. Each block in the chain loses a little heat, so surfaces close to the fire run hotter than ones at the end of a long line. Past six or seven blocks you're cooling off.

Step 3: Put cooking surfaces on the distributors.

The Baking Sheet, Rack, and Stovetop all read heat from blocks around them. The Sheet and Rack are forgiving (below plus all four sides). The Stovetop only reads from directly below, so it has to sit on top of a Distributor.

Typical stack: Fuel Chamber, then Heat Distributor, then your cooking surface. Build outward from there. As long as the distributor blocks are touching, heat flows.

The Baking Sheet

Right-click with dough to put it down. Four small items per sheet, or one large item like a pie. Hold Ctrl while right-clicking to drop four at once. Empty-hand right-click picks one back up, Ctrl+right-click picks them all.

Cold dough is fine on a cold sheet, nothing happens until the surface heats. Once it's hot, items rise and brown. Walk away too long and they char. Hover the sheet for per-item temperature, progress, and time remaining.

The Baking Sheet Rack

A frame that holds three Baking Sheets stacked vertically. 12 baking slots fed by one heat source.

Right-click with a Baking Sheet in hand to slot it onto whichever shelf you're aiming at: low, middle, or high based on click height. Mix tiers however you want. Steel on top for fast bakes, copper at the bottom for slow ones. Each shelf cooks at its inserted sheet's speed.

Right-click with dough to bake on the targeted shelf. Ctrl+right-click bulk-fills. Empty hand picks items back up. To pull a sheet out of the rack, clear that shelf of bakes first, then empty-hand right-click takes the sheet back.

The Stovetop

Right-click with a clay pot to place it. The pot interface is the same one a firepit uses, drop ingredients in and let it simmer. No fuel of its own. Heat comes from the Distributor below. Capped at 300°C.

Metal Tiers

Baking Sheets and Stovetops come in four tiers. Higher tiers cook faster, not hotter. Same temperature, just finishes sooner.

Copper - 1.0x

Iron - 1.1x

Meteoric Iron - 1.2x

Steel - 1.3x

The Rack itself is tier-independent. Speed on each shelf comes from whichever sheet you insert.

Stone Styles

Fuel Chambers and Heat Distributors come in three looks: Polished Stone, Cobblestone, and Stone Brick. Purely cosmetic. Within a single recipe all stones must match, but once they're placed you can mix freely. A granite chamber feeds a marble distributor just fine.

Crafting

Hammer and chisel are tools in every recipe (not consumed). A basic kitchen (1 chamber, 3 distributors, 2 cooking surfaces) runs about 3 metal plates, 12 metal rods, 4 mortar, 3 polished rock, and 21 matching stones. The Rack is 6 iron rods on its own. No tier on the frame, the inserted sheets supply the speed.

Compatibility

These mods are confirmed to work with Panda Hearth:

A Culinary Artillery

Metal Cooking Pots

Aldi's Classes

Finishing Remarks

Please note that this is my first attempt at modding and responses may be slow. I currently don't play multiplayer so I'm unsure how this mod will perform online, if any issues are reported I will try my best to fix them.
