EarthLiving Mine Transport

Description

EarthLiving Mine Transport adds a craftable narrow-gauge freight railway system to Vintage Story. Lay reusable track, move persistent cargo carts by hand or as coupled trains, haul heavy loads uphill, and automate loading and route protection.

Public beta for Vintage Story 1.22.7. Back up important worlds and cart cargo before installing or updating any beta mod.

The 16-slot cargo cart uses server-authoritative, mass-aware rail physics. Cargo weight affects push and pull response, rolling distance, braking, train mass and chain-haul capacity. Push carts by hand, pull them with a visible tow rope, or couple up to 12 carts into one train with shared movement and braking.

Move heavy trains uphill on animated chain-haul rails with an anti-rollback pawl. The drive starts as a hand crank and can be upgraded for vanilla mechanical power and then self-contained steam power using water and fuel.

Loading and unloading station rails transfer filtered cargo between a stopped cart, adjacent containers and vanilla chutes. Detector rails, animated red/green semaphore signals and automatic switch controllers can protect loaded block sections, reserve a route and hold a turnout until the complete train has passed.

Features

Straight rails, four reusable curve orientations and two-block, one-block-rise inclines

Passive mass-aware brake rails and reusable one-ended buffer stops

Separate left- and right-hand compact manual switches

Separate left- and right-hand 2x3 double-track switches

Persistent 16-slot cargo carts with live cargo mass, total mass and brake information

Visible tow rope, push/pull controls and trains of up to 12 coupled carts

Shared train mass, braking, route movement and chain-haul capacity

Animated hand-, mechanical- and steam-powered chain-haul machinery

Loading and unloading station rails with exact-item filters, adjacent-container access and chute buffers

Detector rails, animated two-aspect semaphore signals and automatic turnout interlocking

Direction-correct wheels, animated brake lever, player/cart collision and spatial rail sounds

Server-authoritative movement, inventory handling, claims and route validation

Survival recipes, handbook entries and Creative Inventory hover guides for every player-facing component

A dedicated EarthLiving category in the Creative Inventory

Installation

Recommended: in-game Mod Downloader

Open Vintage Story's in-game Mod Downloader.

Search for EarthLiving Mine Transport.

Download version 0.12.9 and confirm that it is enabled in the Mod Manager.

Manual fallback

Close Vintage Story.

Download
earthlivingminetransport_0.12.9_vs1.22.7.zip
from this page.

Put the ZIP directly in
%APPDATA%\VintagestoryData\Mods
. Do not extract it.

Remove older copies so only one version is installed.

The mod is required on both client and server. Every multiplayer participant must use the same version.

Basic controls

Right-click with an ordinary item or empty hand: push the cart

Hold the Mine-cart tow rope and right-click: attach the visible rope and pull the cart

Shift + right-click: toggle the cart brake

Ctrl + right-click: open cart cargo

Ctrl + Shift + right-click: pack up an empty, stopped, braked cart

Use the coupler tool on the facing ends of two nearby carts to connect or disconnect them

Right-click a manual switch to toggle its route; the switch is protected while occupied

Hold left-click on a rail or machine: break and recover it

Version 0.12.9

This is a major feature update from the previous public 0.7.1 build. It adds coupled trains, chain haul with three drive tiers, cargo stations, detectors, signals, automatic switch control, left/right manual switches, left/right double-track switches, a dedicated Creative Inventory category and extensive placement guides.

Updating: no special migration from 0.7.1 is known. Old 0.7.0 one-block test inclines must still be broken and replaced. Downgrading an updated world is not supported.

Compatibility

Supported and tested game version: Vintage Story 1.22.7

Code mod; required on client and server

English player-facing text; the Danish locale currently mirrors English

Beta limitations

One 16-slot cargo-cart type; no passenger carts, riding or visible cargo

Trains are limited to 12 carts; an unresolved unloaded member stops the train safely

One incline geometry; no curved slopes, crossings or three-way switches

Chain haul supports straight continuous inclines with one drive at the top

Stations service one centred cart at a time, transfer at most one item every 0.25 seconds and use exact-item filters

Station release does not launch a train

Signals are directional, two-aspect and limited to loaded, unbranched sections of up to 16 transitions

One automatic controller per adjacent switch; no timetable, destination routing, remote dispatch or multi-switch route setting

Unknown, ambiguous, unloaded or claim-denied automation fails closed

Full simultaneous two-player and large-network performance testing remains ongoing beta work

License

Copyright (c) 2026 Earth Living.
