Batch Production Molds

DBy DavidLokison

Adds realistic "Vanilla+" style batch production molds to produce multiple work pieces at once.

Batch Production Molds

Description

Cast multiple ingots in one go without the large space those single ingot molds require!

Upgrade your Smithy

This mod adds batch production to your (probably midgame) metalcasting toolbelt! Ever wondered why you can only make one ingot at a time from a mold and why you have to waste many blocks of space to fit your cooling work pieces? Well, Batch Production Molds has got you covered! Create molds for batch production of 3, 4 and even 12 ingots at once, fit a full heated crucible into the space of two blocks worth of molds and enjoy your gained space in the forge by shelving the unneeded molds after using them.

  • 3 ingot batch mold: about 7 clay to form, 300 units of metal
  • 4 ingot batch mold: about 10 clay to form, 400 units of metal
  • 12 ingot batch mold: about 32 clay to form, 1200 units of metal

Mod Style

Batch Production Molds is aimed towards a Vanilla+ style to closely fit the realism of Vintage Story but provide a few more alternatives for molding work pieces. All the molds are carefully carved for the pieces to not change form but also be realistically extractable without breaking the mold. I tried to make the molds behave like the Vanilla ingot molds too as they are shelvable (with the exeption of the large 12 ingot mold cause it is simply too bulky) and inherit the help texts and all the logic from the vanilla molds.

For the casting itself I also tried to mimic the Vanilla costs cause I felt ingots should be more of a base resource and less of a burden to cast in bulk in the first place. The molds are designed in a way that the ingot would be able to be extracted without material loss and an ingot doesn't have to be in exact shape for it to be smithable. So all you do is pour some metal into a shape that can be produced afterwards, not that you have to pay close attention to warps and bends and the like. This will greatly vary as soon as I get to do plates, rods and other "smithing only" items. They usually rely on perfect straightness and have to be post-produced after casting, usually by hammering out the cracks and bends on the anvil. It will still save some time (and hammer durability) for sure, but I won't just insert recipes for working around the Vanilla progression.

Recipes

All molds are craftable from all clay variants, just fire them up in your pit kiln or create your favourite colour in the beehive kiln.

Compatibility

Batch Production Molds should be compatible with all your favourite smithing mods, I only introduce one new block class based on the Vanilla tool mold block. So if the mod doesn't break that one, it is working in tandem. If some breaking stuff happens with my mod enabled, please leave a comment here – or better yet: leave an issue on GitHub with a description on how to reproduce and the crash log so I can look into it.

What is next

Probably further smoothing the rough edges, more help texts and crafting descriptions, maybe more batch tool molds. Let me know in the comments which toold I should try first to batch produce.

Thank you for taking the time to read the mod description!

Thank you so much for your support!

I mean it! Thank you a ton! Your requests for a 1.22 version, even though I took quite a while for what was basically a 10 minute coding walk, showed me how much the community depends on that tiny little idea I had a while ago; how much the community appreciates this humble piece of code.

Also honorable mention to Kostelo, who just went ahead and forked the repository, which was what gave me the final waking call to start working on this again. Sorry that it had to come this far, but sometimes life's just being life eh?

Help! The mod author seems irresponsive!

Yeah, that can happen... sorry. I have way too much on my plate currently so the site over here at ModDB kinda falls short sometimes. The best way to contact me is by opening an issue over at the public GitHub repository. I check that somewhat more often so that's a safer way to get my attention. If you already have a fix ready to your problem you are perfectly welcome to fork the repo and open a pull request. I will make sure you are mentioned as a contributor if you do so.

How can I make sure the mod is safe?

I didn't think I would have to add this section at some point... but trust is wavy these days and I wanted to make a statement for safe, open and attestated builds. To verify that the file here at the Mod DB is the same as the one over at GitHub, you can simply call

<span style="color: cyan;">$ </span>sha256sum batchmolds_&lt;version&gt;.zip

and compare the result to the checksum of the file downloadable in the Release section in the repository.

If you want to go a step further, you can call

<span style="color: cyan;">$ </span>gh attestation verify batchmolds_&lt;version&gt;.zip --repo DavidLokison/vs-batch-production-molds

with an authenticated GitHub CLI to verify that the file has been built by a GitHub runner on the source repository.
