MultiClass Reborn

Description

MultiClass Reborn

MultiClass Reborn is a clean-room, drop-in replacement for the original MultiClass mod.

What It Does

Multiclass Reborn lets players build layered characters by learning extra classes alongside their base class.
Extra classes can contribute traits, recipe access, and stat changes depending on server configuration.

Learn extra classes through commands, the class picker, or Aptitude Glyphstones.

Forget extra classes when server rules allow retraining.

Keep existing saves thanks to preserved multiclass save data compatibility.

Use the same compatibility mod id as the original Multiclass mod.

Upgrade old worlds cleanly with legacy rune item remaps to the new Glyphstone items.

Add or remove in existing saves without corrupting characters or worlds.

By default makes Glyphstones available at Luxury Traders, but worlds default to not requiring these tokens to add classes, so it's opt-in. There's also a config flag for enabling crafting of the tokens.

Full Replacement For Original Multiclass

This mod is intended to fully replace the original Multiclass mod while preserving world compatibility.
If you previously used Multiclass, Multiclass Reborn is designed to continue from the same saved player data
instead of forcing a fresh start.

Server Features

Configurable secondary class stat scaling for balanced extra-class bonuses.

Optional recipe trait support so extra classes can count for recipe gating.

Optional duplicate stat control to prevent repeated positive bonuses from stacking too far.

Harshest negative trait preservation for servers that want multiclassing to keep meaningful tradeoffs

Configurable class slot limits through the server config.

Optional token requirements for adding or forgetting classes.

Starting Aptitude Glyphstones for new players when token-based progression is enabled.

Optional free retraining while still requiring glyphstones for new class slots.

Optional craftable Aptitude and Retraining Glyphstone recipes.

Optional class-bound Aptitude Glyphstones for class-specific progression, loot, quests, or modpack rules.

Optional disabling of generic Aptitude Glyphstones while keeping class-bound glyphstones available.

Optional base-class forgetting, allowing players to return to Commoner.

Optional Commoner base-class selection without requiring a glyphstone.

Glyphstones

Rune items have been renamed into Glyphstones while preserving compatibility remaps for older worlds.
Aptitude Glyphstones help players learn additional classes, while retraining options can be enabled for servers
that want more flexible character progression.

Configuration

The server config is written to
ModConfig/multiclassreborn.json
. Configuration fallsback to default values safely if configs are malformed or if some values are invalid, allowing the mod to continue to run even if an error is made rather than hard crashing. Server owners can tune stats, recipe access, class slot limits, token requirements, forgetting rules, and Commoner class selection behavior. For further details see the documentation.

There's also some documentation here for Class Bound Glyphs specifically, and there's a minimal config example here.

To check if your config is working you can use
/multiclass configcheck
, this will indicate any bad config values that need attention and have fell back to default since the last load / server restart. If you need to go back to a clean config, you can use
/multiclass regenconfig
to fix the file, it will try to maintain your settings, and fallback to good known settings where it can't. You can then edit the settings and reload / restart to fix any issues caused by bad values or bad config file formats.

Class Bound Glyphstones

Multiclass Reborn now supports optional class-bound glyphstones. These let server owners or modpack makers create glyphstones that can only be used by specific player classes, making it easier to gate multiclass progression behind class identity, loot tables, quests, or custom progression rules.

For setup details and examples, see the Class Bound Glyphstones documentation.

Why Reborn?

Multiclass Reborn keeps the spirit and save compatibility of Multiclass, but gives the system a fresh foundation:
cleaner code, clearer item naming, configurable balance options, and a path forward for modern Vintage Story worlds.

Note: It's built to respect the MultiClass original mod config if possible, if you were running multiclass and want to use my config options you should delete the multiclass.json config file, let mine regenerate itself on load and then edit it and restart.

Known Issues

Something in the config implementation sometimes seems to not work, possibly a conflict between my client/server implementation, if it happens to you you'll only get the default config options working, please stand by for a fix!

v.0.1.1 - This version fixes several bugs regarding configs in existing worlds (leg
