MBy MiraLeaps

Adds a Tailoring skill tree to XSkills. Core support for Tailor's Delight with other compatibility

X-Skills Tailoring (Testing Version)

Description

X-Skills Tailoring!
(Or how I stopped worrying and learned to love Flax Twine and Spindles)

REQUIRED MODS: Tailor's Delight, Xskills, XLib

OPTIONAL MODS: XSkills Gildeded Fork, Wool, Immersive Fibercraft, Knitting

Description: My lovely boyfriend, "C", got hooked on tailoring as a side-hobby in Vintage Story and consumes just about every tailoring mod he can get his hands on. One day he said "I wonder why there's no Tailoring skill tree in X-skills", I agreed and here we are. This mod adds in a whole new skill-tree to x-skills named Threadweaving (referencing the class from Aldi's Classes) which focuses on all the steps in the process of making clothes and clothing adjacent things (like backpacks and armor primary layers). This mod will reward xp for spinning fibers into thread, working those threads into linen, that linen further into cloth and so on. As you level up, as with other X-skill-tress, you will have the opportunity to unlock abilities to boost your tailoring skills, culminating in the capstone skill "Frogger", which is not referencing the video game about carrying a amphibian across a busy road but rather unraveling work to correct mistakes in knitting....in this case it allows you to disassemble clothing/clothing adjacent things for a full refund in materials (for an example of these abilities). Also, as a built-in feature, the more materials you use to make something, the more XP it is worth!

This mod is also compatible with X-skills Gilded for the lovely interface it provides!

TEST RELEASE NOTICE: This has been something I've been building up to for a while now, but this is the testing version....I have made sure it runs, I have made sure that it does give XP for the stuff that it should (not that I could test everything). What I couldn't test for sure is how the unlocks affect everything AND if the effects those abilities give (as well as where they fall in the tree) make sense. Plus the icons are placeholder.

I expect that things will be wrong, too much or too little XP....abilities not actually working etc. I will probably also add in debug logging very soon for when stuff is meant to be firing off so we can see.

If you're okay with that and want to give a hand in testing this, here it is! If you find anything that breaks, is broken, isn't working exactly right, or even doesn't fit what you feel makes sense, please leave a Polite comment below with any relevant logs. I'm all for suggestions, but not every suggestion will make it in.

Current Known Bugs:

Frogger isn't quite implemented yet. My original method was....optimistic. I'm re-routing to try and maybe harmony patch into a dummy recipe that does what its meant to do. If anyone has any adivce, I'm here.

Tool Durability reduction via abilities: currently it won't reduce that loss below 0, and for some that means it basically does nothing. Will change this to a percentage chance to reduce loss TO 0.

Sometimes, some things don't seem to give XP when they should. Testing today post-clean-up seemed fine, but live environments can deffo destabilize.

Some things aren't compatibility tested as in other mods for clothes and backpacks...its on the agenda to integrate all that when the main thing is stable.

Thank you all so much for your feedback so far!

LLM use notice: Claude was used to keep this code clean, and my sanity whilst I try to develop this stuff as a dyslexic person who has other issues with the tedious bits of code (have you ever just been unable to comprehend a } in the wrong place?). Claude also helped figure out a weird little conflict while it was checking over stuff so that is nice. Adding comments was also a nice time-saver so, yeah. Just want to declare that since some folks hate any use of AI/LLMs.

<span style="font-size: 8pt;">Editorial Note: I appreciate Claude as a parsing tool, I do, but I had it 'clean up' stuff I guess at the wrong time last night because it completely gnarled some stuff it had no reason to touch, like I told it to do what I always do, and instead of just taking what's there and formatting it nicely, cleaning comments etc, it malformed my stuff and then lied about it. Thankfully today I had some time to fix all that and then fix some reported bugs.</span>
